The images I share with you are stylistic, of that I have no doubt.
Artists have the blessing of freedom to create whatever image exists in their mind. And the curse of having to create that subject from absolutely nothing. Photographers have the blessing of capturing what exists, the beauty that is real and right before you.
And is often the case, in a world of Instagram, and Snapseed filters, the curse of having to temper creative choices with faithfully conserved realism. My goal, I think, with my photography is to tastefully blend the two disciplines. To offer more than just a photograph. My stylized interpretation of a scene that lay before me. Without surrendering that creativity to software and “one click” edits.
And I love every second of the learning evolution!
Born and raised in Thompson MB, my photographic journey began early with lakes and wildlife, waterfalls and northern lights! But fifty (or so) years in the Great White North was enough for me, and now I call Westman home. Or Westman has called me home? I now live with my wife in rustic Douglas MB, and the prairies have offered up a whole new canvas of subject matter to keep my camera clicking in my semi retirement.
From rusty classic cars left out in a field, long abandoned farm houses clinging to the echos of yesterday, to our vanishing sentinels; the prairie elevators that fade one by one into history before our eyes, and amazingly of late; more northern lights! My hope is that I can present to you something ordinary, something you’ve driven past a hundred times, but in a light you’ve never seen.
